Curating around Elitism

There is an element of elitism in the art world and it has gotten to the point where it has changed how we see works of art. This bothers me because art has turned into a symbol of ones wealth and importance. Art is valuable. I won’t deny that but you should buy art and look at art for your own personal enjoyment but one should not buy art in order to impress everyone you know. Instead of art being seen only as a dollar sign it should be a seen as educational because art teaches you about culture and the artist.

I sat down and talked about this subject with the contemporary art curator Sunny Kerr who works at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre. He had some interesting things to say about it.

Here is a link to the interview.

Enjoy.
